Colmar Tropicale Berjaya Hills French Village Bukit Tinggi

Colmar Tropicale Berjaya Hills - Entrance (credits)

Colmar Tropicale Berjaya Hills Resort is actually inspired by the original Colmar Village in Alsace, France. Owned and developed by the Berjaya Group (a local Malaysian company), this resort used to be called Bukit Tinggi Resort until a few years ago when the group decided to rename it to their own name. This was my 3rd visit to the place since it was first opened and I cannot recall when that was. The first time I visited Bukit Tinggi years ago, they actually had a mini slot machine (jackpot machines) room in one of the outlets. Just like Genting Highlands, the place was filled with people pulling away on the 25+ machines hoping to strike it rich but sadly, the machines were removed due to some licensing issues.

The drive to Berjaya Hills Resort is pretty decent and takes about 45 minutes from Kuala Lumpur. It is not as bad as going up Genting Highlands or Cameron Highlands as the roads are less winding. And there are no stop overs on the way up. The average height of the hill is around 2,700 to 3,500 feet so the air is pretty cool and fresh.

The castle in the picture above serves as a function room and a parking bay with 2 floors. Looks very nicely done from the finishing and details. Apparently they took some time to get it right with the proper materials and skilled workers.

At one glance inside the French themed town, it looks pretty nice for something like this to be found in Malaysia. However, what spoils the mood is the overall feeling of the place. A French town with local Malaysians ruining it in all ways possible from, the staff to the visitors. Like they say, 1st world country, 3rd world mentality. The atmosphere generally is not there so it seems dull and boring in town. Only for the fact that the buildings look nice and it is a little cooling.

The armor suits caught my attention as they had about 6 of these suits in the resort lobby. They looked well taken care of and apparently imported from Italy on looking closely at the details and note.

They have a tower at the end of the town where one can, get this - climb up using the stairs or take a lift up! Anyway, it is a look out tower which is about four stories high and you can see the town from the top or turn around and see the beautiful view of the hills.

Just take note that the food here is a little over priced as it is a resort. No 7-11 or Mamak (local coffee shops) there. It seems like after everyone makes their way up there, they settle at the cafes to have a  quick drink or some snacks. Just like we did with the Pizza and Chicken Wings. Not the best in the world but edible.

At Colmar Tropicale Berjaya Hills Resort they have a bakery, restaurant, wine bar in the town. Rooms are available at the resort meaning you stay in the French themed town itself. They also have a golf course, paintball, Japanese Garden there. But a day trip would be enough to cover everything. On the other hand, newly dating couples would appreciate Berjaya Hills Resort as a half day get away from town and a chance to bond.

If you are expecting a casino or slots machines at Bukit Tinggi, take note that there is none. There use to be but no longer.  Now the place serves as a plain highland resort unlike Genting Highlands. Nevertheless, this place is great if you have kids.
